Why Farm-to-Table Isn’t a Trend

Farm-to-Table isn't a trend; it’s a response to a changing food system.
The United States no longer produces enough beef to meet its own demand.
Our national cattle herd is still hovering near historic lows, and rebuilding it isn’t a quick fix—it’s a multi-year, high-risk, high-cost process with no guarantees.
According to the USDA, recovery is slow because drought, feed costs, labor shortages, and land pressure don’t disappear overnight.
That’s why beef prices are high. Not because farmers are getting rich, but because supply is tight.
When we can’t raise enough cattle here at home, imports fill the gap. And those imports are projected to increase again this year.
This isn’t fear. It’s math.
Knowing your farmer isn’t a trend, it’s food security.
